The UK’s Representative Body for the British Equine Industry Awards recognises Bedmax for its export sales and of innovative marketing initiatives of horse bedding.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary year, Bedmax, the UK’s leading manufacturer of horse shavings, has won the prestigious 2020 BETA (British Equine Trade Association) Business Awards export award, which was presented at a Gala dinner in Birmingham on 20th January.
The Ceris Burns Equestrian Export Award is awarded annually to the company that can show a substantial and sustained increase in export activity over a three-year period.
On announcing details of the winner and giving feedback the judges praised Bedmax’s commitment to ensuring that face-to-face meetings with international customers were held at least twice a year, stating:
“I am impressed by their foreign-language brochures, international advertising programmes and the Chinese and Arabic language sections on their website, which show a real commitment to international markets.”
Established in 2000, Bedmax Ltd was the first company in the UK to produce tailor-made, dust-free shavings for horses. Aware that dust was the major contributor to respiratory health problems in the stable, Managing Director Tim Smalley created this bedding, initially with the most important aim of improving the health and wellbeing of stabled horses.
Today, following two Royal Warrants for the supply of horse bedding to Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness Prince Charles, it is the industry leader with a global reputation for producing the very highest quality horse bedding from which all stabled horses can benefit.
Fast-forward two decades and now over 20% of Bedmax sales are distributed across the globe and available in countries as far afield as Japan, China, Hong Kong, the UAE, South Korea and Australia.
On accepting this important industry award, Tim Smalley, Managing Director said:
“The 2020 BETA Export Award is a wonderful milestone for Bedmax in our 20th year. Exporting shavings for horse bedding requires a lot of patience and confidence in the quality of your product and I’d like to thank our sales, production and marketing teams for the enormous effort they have put into achieving our export growth.
“Being part of the great British heritage of world-class equestrian excellence has helped but it’s the Bedmax team’s unstinting determination and hard work that has won us this award. Thank you to the team and thank you to BETA for recognising their success.”
After 20 years of successful business, Bedmax now produces a range of low dust, naturally antibacterial Bedmax, Littlemax and Stockmax shavings from three dedicated production plants in Northumberland, Nottinghamshire and Hampshire. It also manufactures the highly successful eco-friendly Hotmax fuel log, made from the dust extracted during shavings manufacture.
