Everyone at BEDMAX Shavings and the RoR (Retraining of Racehorses) would like to offer our best congratulations to the winners of the first RoR/BEDMAX Racing to Eventing series for ex-racehorses, Camilla Kruger and Princability.

Camilla wins a cheque for £750 from the RoR and 50 bags of BEDMAX Shavings. Right now she is immersed in the hectic business of moving to a new yard, but we hope we will be able to make a formal presentation to her at Badminton in May, and we will report on how she gets on with her new bedding!

The RoR/BEDMAX series was created this year to encourage more owners of ex-racehorses to take their first steps into eventing, and to help promote the RoR's increasingly successful efforts to help owners to develop their horses' full potential. The series has been supported better than we could have hoped, and we have a more than worthy winner in Camilla and her five-year-old partner.

Camilla's achCK_xcountry_close_web.jpgievement in winning the series with a horse as young as Princability is remarkable. Just five now, he was in training with Mick Channon and ran as a three year old, so his learning curve in eventing has been short and steep.

"I'm so proud of Princability, coming so far in such a short time. He has so much more potential and scope, and I'm sure he can go a long way in eventing. I'd like to thank his owner, Mrs Julia Aisbitt, for her wonderful support and enthusiasm for retraining, and also my own support team and our sponsors. I'd also like to thank the RoR and BEDMAX, and I hope that many, many more ex-racehorse owners will give it a go next season."

Camilla began riding ex-racehorses in the Zimbabwean bush, where she grew up, but she has been developing her eventing career and her string of ex-racehorses here in East Sussex for the past 15 years. She is a powerful advocate for the capabilities of thoroughbreds, and her ultimate objective is to represent her country in international competition on one of the ex-racehorses she is currently training.

"I feel very passionate about retraining racehorses. Thoroughbreds are very willing, they have great attitudes towards work and their trainability makes them ideal candidates for a successful new career in eventing. I feel very privileged to have won the first RoR/BEDMAX series, and I hope very much that it will encourage more people to consider taking on racehorses and show they can compete and win at the highest levels as well in the future.
"

The inaugural RoR/BEDMAX Racing to Eventing classes at 90 and 100 level were held at 23 events throughout the UK and attracted 221 entries. We would like to thank the organisers and the owners who supported these classes, and we hope that many more will take part when the series begins again in Spring 2012.
